We have all been entertained, shared laughs and felt deep sympathy for Barnaby as we have travelled with him on his adventures, which have taken him to all four corners of the globe. We are coming to the end of the book now and we will all be sad to say goodbye to Barnaby but we are excited to find out what happens. Everyone in 6ST would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys adventures and a few laughs! We can't wait to start out next book in the New Year (keep checking in on here to find out what it is!!)
This term 6ST have enjoyed listening to The Terrible Thing That Happened to Barnaby Brocket by John Boyne. Barnaby defies the laws of gravity. Instead of standing on the ground, he floats - much to the horror of his parents (who are VERY normal people). They are shocked and horrified by having such an abnormal child. Embarassed by what the neighbours will say, they try all kinds of strategies for keeping Barnaby's feet on the ground - from giving him a rucksack full of sand to making him wear a collar and lead, to shutting him away in a school for 'difficult' children. But whatever they do, Barnaby can't stop floating - and one day, when a school trip unexpectedly leads to his unusual gift becoming front page news, Alistair and Eleanor decide enough is enough and they can't take it any more. Barnaby has to go....

I'm loving this book. If i had to choose my favorite part is when he's in the cage and he saw a girl that looked totally normal but her words come out backwards ( so she should stick to one word sentences )

This book has lots of readability in it and it is probably one of the interesting, tension building and most fun books I have ever read!I think John Boyne must be a very talented author to write a book as good as this!Happy reading!

I love this book because Barnaby floats and also of the humor and I like it because of the different, wacky, cool adventures he has. My favorite part is when Barnaby is held captive, in the Freekatude business. When suddenly an old man comes and sets everyone free! Barnaby has to go bungee jumping when something happened when Barnaby floated suddenly! And then they both tried sky diving, that didn't end out well either because of the same coincidence as normal he started to float. Who knows when Barnaby will get home to his family it all started because he wasn't normal so his mother cut into his sandbags and let Barnaby float of.
