This should be age appropriate with the correct level of challenge. You should then select one of these, study the meaning and practice performing it with expression.
You will be expected to perform the poem to the class (you can have the poem as you perform and do not need to memorize it). You should also be required to write a passage about the poem, with a minimum of 100 words, in your English lesson in class on Thursday 28th January (you can make notes and bring these into class with you). In this passage you could be expected to refer to the following: The title and author The type of poem e.g. lyrical, narrative, rhyming etc The meaning of the poem An explanation of what is happening what it is about The structure of the verses and lines The rhyme scheme The language used and why it is effective or ineffective Any other interesting observations or thoughts Good luck. We also wrote our own promises, reflected on broken promises and thought about when different promises are made. For homework, write a paragraph about the day, including what you learnt and which part you enjoyed the most. To be completed by Thursday 14th January. Go to this webpage (see button text to the right of page). Read the extract from 'A Christmas Carol' and respond to the text with the questions on the page.
Next... Write a Christmas story. It can be set anywhere or at any time in the past, present or future. But it should be set around Christmas. It could be a thought provoking story that relays the Christmas message. See other examples such as the film 'It's a Wonderful Life' or 'A Christmas Carol.' It should use interesting vocabulary choices and varied punctuation. It should be engaging, fun and interesting. It can be a humorous story or quite serious. A minimum of 300 words are required.
